The ADV 2.1 from REI Co-Op Cycles is a sleek, lightweight (23.5 pounds) and versatile bike for road cycling and bikepacking. The model features an aluminum frame and carbon fork that balance durability with weight savings.
We recently tested the ADV 2.1 on a trip to Block Island, and found it ideal for tackling the island’s winding paved roads and moderate hills. Plus, its light weight made it easy to maneuver on the ferry and place on our car rack. Overall, we found it to be a terrific, well-built bike for paved roads or packed dirt.
The ADV is equipped with numerous high-tech features, including a Shimano Claris 2×8 drivetrain with compact double cranks that provide a range of 16 gears to deliver both speed and power. Meanwhile, Promax mechanical disc brakes deliver powerful, reliable speed control. Tires are Kenda Flintridge 700c x 35mm with reflective patches, while the handlebar is a drop-style, with the Shimano Claris shifters located in the brake handles.
