The Chester Town Forest features two loop trails.

Walk & Talc: Hike the Chester Town Forest, Chester, VT

By Tom Richardson

The 550-acre Chester Town Forest, off Route 11 in Chester, Vermont, features a pair of easy, family-friendly loop trails. The 1.9-mile Butternut Hill Trail leads to the top of Butternut Hill, and offers views of Vermont’s Stratton Mountain, as well as Sunapee Mountain in New Hampshire.

The Lost Mine Loop Trail (2.2 miles) leads to the remains of an abandoned talc-mining site that operated between 1894 and the 1930’s.

Parking is available off Water Farm Road and Lovers Lane Road. Dogs are allowed in the forest, but must be leashed.
