Gus Ben David, a well-known Martha’s Vineyard wildlife expert, educator, and former director of Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary in Edgartown, died on July 4 at the age of 81.
David became director of Felix Neck Sanctuary in 1969, a position he held until his retirement in 2005. During that time, he introduced countless numbers of children and adults to the wonders of nature on Martha’s Vineyard. He also created the “World of Reptiles and Birds Park” on his own property in 1995. His park featured many fascinating animals, including a rare golden eagle.
