According to the Block Island Times, concern Is growing among local conservation groups over the condition of many Greenway walking trails, which have seen increased use in the past few years due to the growing popularity of hiking sparked by the pandemic, as well as people searching for the handblown glass orbs hidden on trails as part of the Glass Float Project.
Some of the steeper trail sections have apparently become hazardous due to erosion caused or exacerbated by foot traffic. Making them safer will require the help of engineers and possibly heavy equipment. A list of trails and priority maintenance needs will be developed in the fall.
