On August 2, New Hampshire Conservation Officers received word that a 42-year-old male hiker had been injured in a fall on the Falling Waters Trail in the White Mountains near Franconia. The hiker had slipped on a wet ledge a fell 8 to 10 feet, suffering serious injuries. The accident took place along a 150-foot section of trail that accounts for many of the injuries that occur at Falling Waters, according to officials.

Good Samaritan hikers in the area rendered aid until search and rescue personnel arrived at 5:40 p.m. At that point, the hiker was secured in a rescue litter and carried one mile to the trailhead. A waiting LinWood Ambulance transported the hiker to Littleton Regional Healthcare for treatment.
