On July 30, at approximately 6:20 p.m., the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department received news of an injured hiker near the summit of Dickey Mountain in Waterville Valley. The solo hiker had fallen on slippery rock, injured her leg, and was unable to descend the mountain on her own. Eventually, two fellow hikers came upon her and tried to help her descend; however, her injuries were too severe. They called 911 for assistance and waited with the hiker until help arrived.
Members of the Campton-Thornton Fire Department arrived on-scene at approximately 7:40 p.m. and stabilized the hiker. Conservation Officers and volunteers from the Lakes Region Search & Rescue team soon followed with equipment and began the two-mile carry-out.
The team reached the trailhead at 10:00 p.m., whereupon a Campton-Thornton Ambulance brought the inured hiker to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for further evaluation and treatment.
