The Big Moose Mountain (formerly Big Squaw Mountain) ski area five miles west of Greenville, Maine, is up for sale for $27 million after a proposed $126 million development project fell through in July due to a lack of investment money. Included in the listing are 1,200 mountainside acres, 3,000 acres of farmland, and four miles of shorefront along Mountain View Pond.
The property has been owned by James Confalone for the past 30 years. During this time, the remaining ski area has been managed and maintained by the non-profit group,Friends of the Mountain, which has also added 14 miles of mountain biking trails in recent years. The ski area features a base lodge, ski-equipment rentals, a chair lift, a bunny slope, and grooming equipment.
Explore New England visited Big Moose Ski Area in 2020, and produced this short film with Friends of the Mountain.
