Multiple Backcountry Skiers, Snowboarders Rescued in VT

A large group of skiers and snowboarders was rescued after they became lost in the backcountry in Killington, VT, on Saturday, Jan. 20, officials said.

In all, 21 people, including six children, were lost, according to a statement released by the Killington Police Department.

Killington Search & Rescue responded with 12 members, who hiked, snowshoed, and skinned approximately five miles in frigid temperatures to assist in evaluating the lost skiers and leading them to safety.

As the team was ready to clear, an additional call was received concerning two more skiers who were lost in the backcountry. Six KSAR team members returned to the woods, made contact with the lost skiers, and escorted them to safety at approximately 7:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
