National Land Trust Purchases 44,000 Acres in Northern Maine

Photo Conservation Fund

The Conservation Fund, a national land trust, has purchased more than 44,000 acres of land near the town of Jackman, Maine, and the Canadian border, for a sum of $44 million. The CF plans to conserve northern forest habitats for climate and wildlife benefits, while also supporting working-forest jobs (timber and sap harvesting) that benefit the community. The group also seeks to preserve recreational access to the land.

To meet these varied goals, the organization is working with members of the local community to determine the best ways to conserve the property, while maintaining its many uses.
