NH Land Trusts Seek to Protect 148 Acres in Exeter, Newfields

A campaign led by the Trust for Public Land and Southeast Land Trust is underway to preserve 148 acres of forest in Newfields and Exeter, NH, from future development.

The land trusts are hoping to work with the 2 towns to purchase the land from a private landowner for nearly $5.2 million. The landowner has given the trusts and towns two years to raise enough funds for the purchase before entertaining offers from developers.

The property for sale comprises 47 acres in Exeter and 101 acres in Newfields. If purchased by the towns, it would expand adjacent protected land, including Oaklands Town Forest and Inland Acres Town Forest. It would also protect hiking and mountain biking trails within the popular Fort Rock Trails network.
