NH to Offer Free Admission to 7 State Parks on New Year’s Day

New Hampshire State Parks is offering free admission to select state parks on New Year’s Day to encourage people to get outside.

Participating parks include Greenfield State Park in Greenfield, White Lake State Park in Tamworth, Milan Hill State Park in Milan, Pisgah State Park in Chesterfield, Monadnock State Park in Jaffrey, Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, and Frost Farm Historic Site in Derry. These locations will offer hikers hot chocolate and snacks.

Monadnock features a popular 3-mile hike to the top of the 3,165-foot Mount Monadnock. Odiorne Point State Park is an ocean-front park on the Seacoast.

Pets are permitted at all locations except Odiorne Point and Monadnock State Park. Some of the locations offer guided hikes. Milan Hill State Park will be open for crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing. A limited amount of demo crosscountry ski gear will be available.

The event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m at all locations, and registration is required ahead of time. Interested hikers can register for the event at nhstateparks.org/news-events/first-day-hike.

There are 93 state parks throughout New Hampshire, including beaches, campgrounds, historic sites, and trails. Parks usually charge $2 to $5 for day use and up to $30 for parking on the Seacoast.
