A 26-year-old woman was rescued by members of the New Hampshire Fish & Game Dept. on Sunday, February 20.
Aleeza Shaikh, of New Jersey, was hiking the Liberty Springs Trail in Lincoln when she was apparently overwhelmed by the weather conditions. According to a statement from NH Fish & Game, Shaikh was not wearing appropriate clothing for winter hiking, and a companion called 911 for help at around 4:30 p.m. A group of hikers found her lying on the trail and helped her to within a mile of the trailhead, where the group was met at 5:56 p.m. by F&G rescuers, who assisted Shaikh to the parking lot.
Fish & Game officials have recommended that Shaikh be billed for the rescue, which was described as “preventable.”
