Ice-out was declared on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee on Sunday, March 17, making 2024 the earliest ice-out since record-keeping began in 1887. Ice-out is declared when the lake ice has thawed enough that the Mount Washington tour boat can sail to all five of its ports: Center Harbor, Wolfeboro, Alton, Weirs Beach, and Meredith. “Ice-in” was only declared as of February 9 this winter.
The latest documented ice-out was May 12, 1888, while the second earliest ice-out was March 18, 2016.
