Constant Change: Exploring the Connecticut College Arboretum

By Tom Richardson

The Connecticut College Arboretum is an oasis of nature in the otherwise mostly urban landscape of New London. The 750-acre property features an incredible variety of trees and plants, plus a small pond, a bog, a natural amphitheater, a wild-flower garden, gazebos, and walking trails. This short video explores only a small portion of the arboretum, including a look at the rare Franklin tree (now extinct in the wild) and a magnificent tupelo tree.

The Connecticut College Arboretum is resplendent in October.

Founded in 1931, the Connecticut College Arboretum is a magical place to walk, picnic, or simply contemplate the arboreal display. It’s currently overseen by Director Maggie Redfern, who led us an afternoon stroll through the exquisitely manicured grounds on a gorgeous fall afternoon in 2023.
