Jewels of the West Branch

Videography by AJ Derosa

The beautiful West Branch of the Penobscot River is hallowed ground, or water, when it comes to fly fishing for landlocked salmon, and few people know the stretch between Lake Chesuncook and the Abol Deadwater better than legendary guide Dan Legere.

ENE host Tom Richardson and videographer AJ Derosa were fortunate to join Legere on a stunning August full-day trip starting at the Chewonki Big Eddy Campground. The salmon attacked dry flies throughout the day, and a few of the river’s elusive brook trout also cooperated for the camera. Breaking up the action was a sumptuous shoreside lunch in a sun-splashed pine grove along the river!
