The Fishin' is Easy: Block Island Variety Fishing

Videography by Kevin Erdvig

It’s hard to top Block Island when it comes to fishing action for a variety of species. The island is surrounded by fish-holding boulders, ledges, eelgrass beds, and shoals, all of which provide habitat for striped bass, bluefish, fluke, scup, sea bass, false albacore, and bonito.

In this short film, we join Captain Hank Hewitt of the charter boat Harley for some light-tackle fishing for striped bass and bluefish on the North Rip, followed by a short session with black sea bass a rocky patch of bottom. All three species are readily available from May through October in the waters off Block Island, and make for some fast, easy fun that the whole family will enjoy. At the end of the day, you may even take home some dinner!
